Barrett Firewood needs a delivery driver for our firewood operation in Beaver Bank, NS. Our cut and split firewood operation is looking for someone to help us continuously improve the safety, quality and timeliness of our bulk firewood and mulch delivery operation. This person must also be willing to physically help the rest of the crew between deliveries. The job requires someone with a Class 3 License with air brakes with a minimum of 1 year experience.
Required:
• No smoking or strong scented products in our vehicles or on our site
• Valid Class 3 Licence with air brake endorsement
• Ability to drive both standard (93 & 95 Ford L8000) and automatic (2011 F350 & 2015 Peterbilt 220)
• Physically fit, able to carry/lift materials and manually level loads
• Good judgement (able to dump wood in back yards without getting stuck or damaging property)
• Local deliveries, (30 to 50 hrs/week, typically starting at 6:45am)
• Pre and Post trip vehicle inspections daily
• To keep accurate and legible records of deliveries, payments, fuel and maintenance
• To adhere to Safety procedures
• Good attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
• Demonstrate reliability and solid work history
• Prompt and polite customer service manner with good English skills
• To provide own steel-toed safety boots and work gloves
• Minimum 1 year Class 3 driving experience with no major violations
Preference will be give to those who are:
• Good at maneuvering in tight spots
• Able/trained to keep air brakes and tires on the trucks they drive correctly adjusted
• Able to make change, verify cheques are properly filled out, take debit and provide receipts
• Currently certified with Emergency First Aid
• Willing to help with other parts of the operation and possibly operate other equipment
• Mechanically inclined and able to do basic maintenance on the truck and equipment
• Able to organize their own delivery routes and to combine loads
• Able to safely operate any of the following: forklift, front end loader or knuckle boom log loader
• Have a class 1 lisc. or class 1 driving experience.
Pay will be between $19.00 and $27.00/hr depending on skill level.
Please Note: We are a small company and have no medical or pension plan. The job is seasonal and typically runs between early April and mid December. Additional winter work may be available to a driver with a class 1 licence. As a forestry company overtime is not applicable.
