Firewood Splitter/Lead Hand

(Semi-automated High Production Firewood Processor)


Hours per week: 45 to 50 hours per week, 6:45 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday

Hourly wage: Between $16.00 to $25.00/Hour depending on level of

experience/capability

Work Location: 242 Beaver Bank Road, Beaver Bank, Nova Scotia


We are looking for a full-time splitter operator/lead hand for our 2 person firewood splitting line. This is not your usual firewood splitter, the ergonomic upgrades and labour saving features eliminate the need for brute strength but you still require good stamina. The wood comes precut in 12" and 16" lengths on a waist high conveyor for you to place it in the splitting trays. You ensure the wood is properly placed for a good split and that the 4 conveyors are running properly. After the conveyors place the wood on the trucks, you level the load and swap trucks. In addition to splitting, the lead hand keeps things running smoothly and assists others on the firewood team.

Required:

• Physically fit with excellent stamina and good balance

• Be able to keep up a quick pace throughout the day

• Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions

• To adhere to safety procedures, able to stay focused on the job

• Demonstrate reliability and solid work history

• Able to record production, fuel usage and down time accurately and legibly

• Have good depth perception and situational awareness

∙ Be able to work with minimal supervision

∙ Must provide own steel-toed safety boots and work gloves

• No smoking or strongly scented products allowed in our vehicles, on our work site, or in company buildings


Individuals in the upper pay range require some of the following skills:

• Mechanically inclined and able to do maintenance and repairs

• Have good attention to detail, organization, and time management skills

• Can coordinate production and delivery schedules

• Able to make and/or assist with production/process improvements

• Able to set up and maintain onsite storage of critical parts, tools and supplies
